  • CD: Wartime Consolations Weinberg / Hartmann / Shostakovich

In May 2015, the Dutch label "Challenge Classics" released a new CD by violinist Linus Roth, featuring the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn and its principal conductor. Titled "Wartime Consolations," the recording brings together works by Karl Amadeus Hartmann, Mieczyslaw Weinberg, and Dmitri Shostakovich. The album is a high-quality hybrid CD/SACD with a multichannel version.

"Linus Roth documented his connection to Mieczyslaw Weinberg's music not only by recording many works for violin, but also by founding the international Weinberg Society, which was dedicated to research and interpretation of the composer's music. As a surprising encore on the CD, there are five more minutes of Shostakovich, in the form of the unfinished and never-before-recorded sonata for violin and piano from 1945, which Linus Roth and pianist José Gallardo dedicate to with a vital joy of discovery."
